Like many other merchants in the port cities of Bremen and Hamburg, the Carl Schröter company was involved very early on in the insurance of seagoing vessels and merchandise that were transported all over the world by these vessels. The company was founded more than 150 years ago, on 22.02.1868, in Bremen by Franz Carl Anton Schröter, who gave it its name.
