History

The company was founded more than 150 years ago, on February 22, 1868, in Bremen by Franz Carl Anton Schröter, who gave it its name. The first and still valid agency contract between Carl Schröter and an insurance company dates back to April 17, 1872.

Franz Carl Anton Schröter handed over his company, which he had managed for almost 50 years, to his successors on September 1, 1917. It was a sale on pension basis. Thus it came about that Franz Carl Anton Schröter remained active in his company until his death on March 26, 1921. Since the retirement of its founder, the company was in the following time part of different company groups. However, the changing owners had at least one thing in common. They succeeded in successfully leading the Carl Schröter company through difficult times, up to the time of the German economic miracle and the young Federal Republic.

In 1979, the sole proprietorship became Carl Schröter GmbH, whose shareholders led the company out of a group of companies on January 1, 1986, into independence. On the occasion of the retirement of these shareholders, Carl Schröter GmbH was transformed into Carl Schröter GmbH & Co. KG in 2004 and Carl Schröter Holding GmbH & Co. KG in 2015.

Carl Schröter GmbH Vienna (1997), Claims Service & Insurance Agency GmbH (2009), Carl Schröter International Insurance Services GmbH (2010), Fruit Insurance Services GmbH & Co. KG (2015) and Carl Schröter Europe GmbH & Co. KG (2020) are their subsidiaries. Investments are held in the companies PCW Assekuranz-Vermittlungs GmbH & Co. KG (2001) and Hanseatische Kasko Versicherungsagentur GmbH (2003). Since 2015, Carl Schröter GmbH & Co. KG, which was newly established on the occasion of the foundation of Carl Schröter Holding GmbH & Co. KG, has been active as an underwriter and entered in the register of intermediaries.
